This site is intended for parents/carers of children who may display an unusual/atypical motor and/or cognitive development (or the lack of). The intent of this website is not to make a diagnosis but to encourage the parents/carers to promptly seek medical advice and/or referral to a relevant specialist.

My child’s development

On this website you can find resources to track and understand your child's developmental milestones. While every child develops at their own pace, we provide guidance on typical motor and cognitive progressions and highlight the importance of seeking medical advice if concerns arise regarding unusual or delayed development.

Every child develops at their own pace

Every child is different and unique. As a parent, you are most in tune with your own child’s development and needs. The rate at which children learn certain skills varies and their development can be assessed by when they reach certain milestones.

When should you be concerned?

If you notice anything unusual in how your child is meeting their milestones, it may not be something to worry about. However, some developmental delay or loss of skills seen in infancy or childhood could potentially indicate signs of rare diseases.

Contacting your healthcare provider

Listen to your gut feeling, if you notice any unusual signs in your child’s development, report them promptly to your healthcare provider. The earlier these are recognised, the higher the chances appropriate action can be taken.

Key resources

It can be helpful to track your child’s development and capture any unusual signs of potential concern. We recommend that you make notes at least once every two weeks, and share them with your healthcare provider. Below you can download a symptom diary to fill out, that will aid you in documenting your child’s development. The questions prompt you to answer with a yes or no, or a tick or cross, however you prefer, with some additional space at the bottom if you have any further comments. We also suggest that you video record your child’s (atypical) movements or behaviour, so you not only have this diary, but also a record of their development. These diaries are best suited to be used on a desktop.
